Truly, angels are spiritual beings who do not have physical bodies nor physical gender differences because there is no need for it in their world, yet they do engage in almost every activity that is common to man.
They are known to fellowship with God and run His errands, especially to ensure the blessedness of those who will come to salvation in Christ Jesus, yet they too are beings or creatures who were to be dependent on their own kind of essentials (food) to survive and continue to live.
Angels, because they are dependent beings too, yearn and seek for their own food and drink whenever they are hungry and thirsty.
While humans experience physical hunger and thirst because of the stress of the material world, whereby they get solid and elemental food materials to eat, angels take something else as their own meals as a result of some spiritual deficiencies in them.
It is worthy of note that every physical thing that God has made is a shadow or silhouette of some spiritual realities which are unseen to the physical eyes, so that we can say man as the ultimate creation of God is the image of God and signifies God.
God made man to have dominion and authority over all His creations.
Therefore, what angels eat and drink are spiritual food and water. These food is what Jesus meant when He said, “For My flesh is meat(food) indeed, and My blood is drink indeed.
He that eats My flesh, and drinks My blood dwells in Me, and I in him. As the living Father has sent Me, and I live by the Father, so he that eats Me, even he shall live by Me.”(John 6:55–57).
Thus, angels through their fellowship with God tap some spiritual quality of divine Truth as water which keeps them purified and elevated in wisdom; and live by the power of God’s life in them to produce divine goodness as food which builds them into the perfect stature of Jesus Christ, the Lord of the heavens.
